  The Annapolis Royal Inn capped my visit to the local "Paint the Town" event. Artists from as far away as Halifax and beyond painted away for the weekend. Check in was smooth as silk. The Inn was there for me at the end of the first day. The outdoor pool was refreshing. I had to smile to see how much other families also enjoyed this oasis in rural Nova Scotia. Check out was also efficient as I headed out to another day of drawing and painting -- but not before I had a fill of self-serve breakfast. I was impressed with the breakfast room. Normally my experience has been coffee and toast on paper plates in a dingy room. Not here! They had such a variety I had to hold back. I loved the waffle maker, but chose instead toast, yoghurt, fresh orange slices and tea. The breakfast room is well lit with a view of the front gardens and the back fields to the Allains River. I missed the bonfire last night. I blame the comfy pillows. Within ten minutes I had fallen asleep and slept through the whole night.
  
  Thank you Paulette and Annapolis Royal Inn. To all artists and art lovers out there, I recommend a stay at here. I heard it's only minutes from Upper Clements Theme Park so families with children should find the Inn ideal for an overnight stay or two.

  We stayed here for a night in early June.   The room was comfortable, clean and quite spacious which is all that we were looking for.  The bathroom looked newly renovated and was nice and clean.
  The continental breakfast was served in a nice bright room with a good choice of breakfast foods.
  We were in a room far from the lobby so our internet connection wasn't the best.
  The water pressure in the shower left a lot to be desired but we were only there for one night so it wasn't a big deal.

  The Annapolis Royal Inn is a motel in Annapolis Royal and is pretty much your only alternative to the b&b's in town. Since the two pet friendly b&b's were unavailable when we visited, my husband and I decided to stay here with our two dogs. There is no dog fee which is nice but the only room option available to dog owners is the standard room. There were no other visitors so it was a bit annoying not to be able to rent the "deluxe" room for a little more money. They charge $80 a night for the standard room in off season which still seems high for a motel. The icing on the cake was finding out that they do not bother heating the indoor whirlpools in the winter (which is not stated on their website) and they placed us in a room next to the road even though no one else was there.
  
  Now for the really special part - when we walked into our room it was 35 degrees C. I had to look up what that is in F - over 90 degrees! I wish I had taken a picture of the thermostat so people don't think I am crazy but apparently someone had left the heat on high blast for a week without ever checking the room - turning the room more or less into a sauna. Looking back, we should have demanded being put in another room even when they didn't offer to move us. We opened the windows and the room eventually cooled off but we had to walk the dogs for awhile outside until the room was bearable.
  
  And lastly, the wireless internet was not working when we were there. When I told the front desk staff, he said the internet does not reach the rooms near the road anyway, but let me borrow an ethernet cord which was nice at least. We also reported a problem with our sink making noise when the cold water was turned on and apparently someone had turned off the cold water under the sink.
  
  In sum, this place is a headache and overpriced, especially considering there is no fridge or microwave. Make the extra effort to stay in a b&b.
  
  The few pros - dogs are allowed for free, there is a large area to run around out back, and the rooms are pretty clean. You can also borrow a wine opener from the front desk. The beds are so so in comfort. A continental breakfast is included.
